DUBAI: Starting May 1, 2025, Thailand will officially implement the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), replacing the traditional TM6 paper form.

This shift aims to speed up immigration processing and enhance security for international travellers.

Previously, all visitors entering Thailand had to fill out the TM6 paper arrival card. This requirement was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the government is making digital registration compulsory, streamlining the process for millions of incoming tourists.

Other countries, including Malaysia, Cambodia, and South Korea, have implemented similar digital entry systems.

Who needs TDAC?

TDAC is mandatory for all foreign travellers, regardless of visa type. However, two categories are exempt: transit passengers who do not pass through immigration and border pass holders using designated land crossings.

Application process

Travellers must complete the TDAC within 72 hours before arrival. The process involves the following steps:

  • Visit the official website – Go to the official website and select “Arrival Card.”
  • Enter Personal Details – Provide full name, nationality, passport number, and visa details (if applicable).
  • Fill in Travel Information – Include expected arrival date, mode of transport, and accommodation details.
  • Health Declaration – List countries visited in the past 14 days.
  • Review and Confirm – Verify all information before submission.
  • Provide Email Address – The completed TDAC will be sent as a PDF file.
  • Download and Save – Print or store the digital copy for immigration checks.

Why TDAC?

Thailand’s decision to introduce the TDAC aligns with global trends in digital immigration systems. The key benefits include:

  • Faster processing – Reducing long queues at entry points.
  • Improved security – Enhancing data collection and monitoring.
  • Health safety – Supporting post-pandemic public health measures.
  • Eco-friendly approach – Eliminating paper waste.

Thailand visa-free stay

Thailand is also reviewing a proposal to shorten visa-free stays. The current 60-day visa-free period for 93 nationalities may be reduced to 30 days. While still under discussion, the potential change has sparked mixed reactions.

To ensure a smooth transition, the Thai Immigration Bureau has launched an awareness campaign featuring instructional videos and brochures in English, Chinese, Korean, Russian, and Japanese.
